Capricorn 2022

WEAVE THE PAST AND THE PRESENT INTO AN INSPIRING MOSAIC

The Sun entered the constellation of the Sea-Goat late night on January 20 this year, according to the astronomical observations of the sky, as published in Stella Natura 2022 (pub. Camphill Village Kimberton Hills).

Note: The ecliptic constellations that we see as the zodiac from the Earth move about 1 degree every 72 years. While the Sun entered the constellation of the Sea-Goat—known as the sign of the Capricorn—at the Winter Solstice about 2000 years ago, it now enters the Archer, known as the Sagittarius sign. Yet, we’re still used to the Capricorn dates from December 21 to January 20. However, the Sun now visits the constellation of the Sea-Goat around January 20. Perhaps some meaning continues to be in the astrological dates for the zodiacal signs. Perhaps we are offered a glimpse into how the human consciousness has progressed when we compare the neighboring zodiacal constellations and their relations to the Sun’s path.

As the Sun rests in the embrace of the protective shield of Capricorn from January 20 through February 15, we too are invited to enter the safe haven of our Soul to cleanse the inner chambers, to nourish our Source of Light and Love within. It’s time to slow down, and get into the flow of spiritual practice of your choice. To create a spiritual routine that suits you and your specific needs. There are lots of different options available. Explore what works for you. For some, an already established spiritual modality may be good. For others, it may feel better to put together your unique mosaic, assembled from the insights of various spiritual approaches. The key is to step into your own column of Light and connect closely with your Highest Self. You may get some help from other people, but remember that you know yourself the best.

However, when life gets tough here on Earth—caused by the pandemic, politics, commercialization of the holidays—a very simple, yet powerful I-A-O (pronounced “ee-ah-oh”) harmonious movement meditation may be useful. The I-A-O movement meditation is the first eurythmy exercise, given by Rudolf Steiner to Lory Maier-Smits in September of 1912 in Munich, Germany. From Hawaiian shamanism, we learn that ‘IAO is the sacred name for the Infinite Light, the Light of the World. The ancient Gnostic text Pistis Sophia informs us that the resurrected Christ and his disciples used the invocation I-A-O to call upon the boundless Light of the Universe. If you’d like to learn the I-A-O exercise, the audio and written guided meditations are available for free by clicking here or on the image below.

I-A-O Harmonious Movement Meditation

The stars of the Sea-Goat pour the sound of L onto the Earth. According to Rudolf Steiner’s spiritual research, the sound L is the only water sound. In the harmonious movement art of eurythmy, the L gesture is a continuous renewal of the Life energy. Like a fountain. The arms reach deep down to lift the energies up the body in front through the chakras all the way up, as far as the arms can reach, and then down again on the sides.

The eurythmy figure for L is clad in silver grey, with seven orange or golden yellow arcs going up from the feet to the top of the head and with the veil or movement vibrates violet/purple/lavender hues. We transform our physical bodies by moving the Light of Spirit through our energy fields.

You may want to learn the chakra cleansing exercise to the sounds of Halleluiah with lots of Ls, given by the European esoteric teacher Dr. Rudolf Steiner. I used to teach this exercise throughout the month of January, but unfortunately, my eurythmy circles in New York have been paused due to the pandemic. However, if you live close to the Threefold Community in new York, we can meet in person face-to-face and I’ll guide you through the movements. Let me know by clicking here. Or connect with your local eurythmist: Contact the closest Waldorf school (they are all over the world) and ask for their eurythmy teacher. If you have hard time finding one, send me a note by clicking here and I’ll assist you.

Disclaimer about the Halleluiah exercise:

The Halleluiah harmonious movement meditation is an exercise that actively purifies your chakras, and more. Eurythmy works with chi energy, which gets lost in recordings. I highly recommend that you first learn this movement sequence with a trained eurythmist in person. Then later, you can get a video recording or written instructions as a reminder. But don’t attempt to learn the exercise from a video recording or written instructions that may be available online.

If you already know the Halleluiah exercise let me know by clicking here and I’ll email you my own verse for free to enhance your practice, and to explore further.

Enjoy the artistic interpretation of the Halleluiah harmonious movement meditation by the eurythmist Gail Langstroth, my very first eurythmy teacher.

Rudolf Steiner offers more insights for our inner work while rippled with Sea-Goat’s vibes. Here are his contemplative words for the mood of Capricorn:

May what is coming rest on what has been.
May what has been surmise what is to come
for a vigorous present existence.
Through inward life-withstanding
May world-beings’ guard grow strong,
May life’s working might blossom forth,
May what has been bear what is to come!

(Rudolf Steiner’s Sagittarius verse from Twelve Moods, translated from German by Ruth and Hans Pusch)

Sun, Venus, Mercury jointly advise us: “May what is coming rest on what has been. May what has been surmise what is to come for a vigorous present existence.” Let’s be aware of what has already happened and weave the past and the present into a creative and inspiring mosaic.

“Through inward life-withstanding,” adds Mars. Our conscious—rich and nourishing—inner life assists us in present actions as we move towards our goals.

We are protected by spiritual beings who help us in this life, as Jupiter reminds us: “May world-beings’ guard grow strong.” And as we consciously engage in our work here on Earth, we may reap awards, encourages us Saturn: “May life’s working might blossom forth.”

As we nourish our roots and diligently perform our earthly tasks, Moon’s wisdom guides us: “May what has been bear what is to come!
